If you haven’t read my past blog post, What Is Capstone? I really recommend doing so. Some of the things I say in this post may be a little muddy, so I recommend referring back to that one if you would like more insight into what my senior Capstone project, JOL, will be like.

If you read my last post you remember me talking with hunter Lansche from Dovetail STL. He gave me some great insights about what I should do moving forward with my senior capstone project.

Unlike last time, This meeting was much more formal and was really more of a check-in where I just showed him the projects I had already finished, and I was about to show him the early ideas I had for my last two projects as I finish out this semester. Of course, he was able to give me great feedback and a huge tip that I had not thought of, but I will definitely be adding to my project.

Motion Graphics

At Dovetail, Hunter told me he is in charge of a lot of video production and motion designing so when I showed him my most recent project, Instagram ads, he gave the great suggestion of adding some sort of movement to make the ad more eye-catching. He showed me Instagram pages like Crumbl Cookies and showed how they are so great at what they do just because of the simple B roll they include in their ads to make their cookies stand out on your page.

Though I won't be able to shoot an actual b roll of the food for my ads, I can do some simple transformations in after effects and maybe use some simple zooms or translations to make the food a little more enticing.

Once again, I felt like this was an extremely helpful process and I am ever so grateful to be paired with Hunter so I can pick his brain and get some of his expertise. I believe hunter and I will be meeting one more time before the semester ends so I'm very excited to show him the finished project!
